Biography

I was born in Glasgow Scotland in 1943. When I was seven my family immigrated to Canada. It was apparent at an early age that I had been gifted with some innate talents among them being drawing and painting. I showed maturity and understanding of colour, perspective, light and shadow that went far beyond most children my age. In my late teens, I tried pursuing a path in fine arts as a painter, but to no avail. Financial circumstances lead me to apply for a new subsidized commercial art course being set up by a community college. Before completing the course I was asked to work for a small Toronto-based studio. For the past 50 years, I’ve held positions in Ad Agencies and Design Firms ending the last 15 years as a freelance Art Director, Designer. During my long career in Advertising and Design I have won numerous awards for both art direction and design from The Art Director’s Club (Toronto) Art Direction Magazine (New York) • Canadian Graphic Society and Marketing Magazine (Toronto). I’m now painting again; only now it is with maturity, experience and an electronic paintbrush.
